Bengaluru, NFAPost : Leading independent open cloud provider Linode expanded India operation by opening its newest data center in Mumbai.
The company expects the new data centre will help to serve clients in a better way and solidify its position in one of the fastest growing developer and technology regions in the world. This is the company’s tenth data center worldwide.
The Mumbai launch of the data Centre is expected to help the region’s five million developers and the organizations they support. It will make the service more affordable and give local alternative to hyperscale providers currently serving the Indian market.
Commenting on India expansion, Linode founder and CEO Christopher Aker said the company believes in democratising cloud computing.
“Our entry into the Indian market opens the door for a wave of new innovation previously closed off to a significant number of developers and businesses in India,” said Christopher Aker.
According to a recent study by Gartner, Indian cloud market is registering exponential growth.
India is second only to China as the largest and fastest growing cloud services market in the Asia Pacific. The country’s public cloud services market was measured at $1.8 billion in 2017 and is expected to reach $4.1 billion by 2020.
Linode Mumbai was built using the company’s latest server builds and Next Generation Network (NGN) and connects directly to Linode’s global fiber backbone.
Customers in India and the wider developer community can now benefit from the best price-to-performance offering in the industry, allowing them to reduce latency and improve performance by running workloads closer to home.
Unlike leading competitive offerings, Linode’s cloud services will be available at the same low, flat and transparent price in India as they are in every other region in which Linode operates.
Linode India Data Centre and Cloud Operations Director Ashwin Kumar said the company is known for its affordable pricing. “The pricing remains the same, consistent and transparent for our data centres across the globe. Each data center Linode operates has a starting price of $5/month for a Standard Nanode. Customers with Linode in other data centers who want to migrate to Mumbai can do so now, ” said Ashwin Kumar.
He also said the company already serves more than 1000 customers in India and Mumbai data center allows the company to offer low latency capabilities to customers who we were so far servicing out of Tokyo and Singapore.
According to sources, Linode has invested $5 million towards its India operations so far. The company is targeting more investment going forward to scale up its future operations.
