New Delhi, July 21: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday praised sprinter Hima Das for winning five gold medals in three weeks at different events.
“Three weeks, five gold medals! You’re incredible @HimaDas8 Keep sprinting, keep shining — and may this success set the pace for glory at the 2020 Olympic Games,” President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted.
Hima bagged her latest gold on July 20 in Prague where she clocked a season-best time of 52.09 seconds to win the gold in 400m at the Nove Mesto nad Metuji Grand Prix.
The Dhing Express, however, failed to qualify for World Athletics Championships as the 400m qualification mark for the world event was kept as 51.80 seconds.
Her personal best is 50.79 seconds, which she recorded at the 2018 Asian Games.
Modi said India is very proud of Hima’s phenomenal achievements over the last few days.
“India is very proud of @HimaDas8’s phenomenal achievements over the last few days. Everyone is absolutely delighted that she has brought home five medals in various tournaments. Congratulations to her and best wishes for her future endeavors,” he tweeted.
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar also showered praise on “The Dhing Express” by saying he is loving the way she is running over the last 19 days.
Hima’s hunger to win and perseverance is an inspiration for the youth, the maestro tweeted.
Earlier, she claimed gold at 200m in Tabor Athletic Meet on July 17. Prior to it, she won three gold at different events including a gold medal in Klado Athletic Meet, Kunto Athletics.
