Bengaluru, NFAPost: Netflix has started shutting down unused subscriber accounts to save your money. This comes as a big relief for those who have stopped watching the streaming content for a long time and somehow forgot to unsubscribe the service.
Netflix Starts Cancelling Unused Accounts to Help Subscribers Save Money
Amid the double whammy of global economic crisis and Covid-19 pandemic, Netflix has taken a big initiative to help its inactive customers save on the subscription costs when not using its online streaming services.
The company has started sending emails to all those customers who have been inactive on the platform for more than a year since joining or stopped watching its content for more than a couple of years.
“So we’re asking everyone who has not watched anything on Netflix for a year since they joined to confirm they want to keep their membership. And we’ll do the same for anyone who has stopped watching for more than two years.”
The popular streaming service has decided to shut down all those subscriber accounts who fail to reply to its notification email asking them to reactivate their account within the stipulated time.
Inactive users are encouraged to reactivate their accounts within 10 months from the last subscription renewal date on the platform in order to recover their favourites, profiles, viewing preferences, and account details.
Netflix confirms that all such dormant accounts constitute barely 0.5% of its 182 million subscriber base or a few hundred thousand accounts. All such accounts may contact Netflix and reactivate their accounts or claim the refund benefits for unused subscriptions after the account cancellation.
